Atlanta Kobalt Tools 500
March 7, 2010 - Atlanta Motor Speedway
NASCAR Sprint Cup's finest take on one of the fastest
tracks in racing when the Kobalt Tools 500 (formerly
Golden Corral 500) hits Atlanta Motor Speedway. The
Sprint Cup race is one of two races hosted at Atlanta
Motor Speedway, with the other being the
Pep Boys Auto 500 in September. |

Held annually at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, one of the
fastest race tracks on the Sprint Cup circuit, the
Kobalt Tools 500 has provided a history of great NASCAR
racing and thrilling finishes.
The
Atlanta Motor Speedway is a 1.54 mile
quad-oval with 24 degrees of banking in
the turns. Given the track's high
banking and the fact that the Kobalt is
not a restrictor plate race, the result
is that there are higher average speeds
here in Atlanta than even at the faster
superspeedways in Daytona and Talladega!
Simply put, the Kobalt Tools 500 is a
very fast race, on a very fast track,
and one with a truly great history of
racing.
The Kobalt
Tools 500 began as the Atlanta 500 in
1960. Since then, this race has grown to
be a favorite among big-time NASCAR
betting fans. The Kobalt Tools 500 is
one of two races held at Atlanta Motor
Speedway, the other being the Pep Boys
Auto 500 in September. The NASCAR season
is just heating up and there is no
better way to get into the Sprint Cup
betting action than the Kobalt Tools
500.
In 2009,
Kurt Busch took the checkered flag in
NASCAR odds. Busch led 234 of 330 laps
in the Kobalt Tools 500, surviving a
couple of scrapes with the wall and a
late caution to pull away to win the
Sprint Cup race by 0.332 of a second
over Jeff Gordon.
As you
consider NASCAR odds you may want to
remember that the early season results
don’t mean much in Atlanta. Just because
a driver won in Daytona or California
does not mean they will do well in
NASCAR betting odds in Atlanta. The
track is different, the atmosphere is
different and there are few guarantees
in NASCAR odds in Atlanta.
The 2008 Kobalt Tools 500 saw Toyota
make history when, for the very first
time since 1954, a foreign auto maker
was victorious in a NASCAR stock car
race. Kyle Busch raced to victory in his
Toyota after Carl Edwards, who had
dominated nearly the entire race, had to
pit once his car began smoking.
