TUMS Fast Relief 500 is the only Chase event that is scheduled to be run on a short track (.526 miles) and, as the final short-track race of the season, a race which always promises to provide plenty of thrills, spills, and all-around great NASCAR action and excitement.

TUMS 500 also has one of the earliest starts of any race included in The Chase. The early start is required given that Martinsville does not have permanent lighting installed, and the mid-October shadows making it otherwise difficult for drivers to see and perform to the best of their ability. In comparison, ever since 2005, most other NASCAR events have set starting times of 2 p.m. or later.
This stop on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is one of the drivers' favorites, because of Martinsville Speedway's low banked turns and long straight-aways.
